[February, 2024] Ayr Farmers Mutual is Sustainable Waterloo Region’s newest member of the Impact Network, joining as an Observing Organization!

Ayr Farmers Mutual has continued to operate as a property & casualty insurance company since 1893, supporting and investing in generations of families, farms, and businesses in North Dumfries and surrounding communities. They are invested in building strong relationships and personal experiences to protect and care for people, Policyholders, and communities. What makes them different is their commitment to providing outstanding, personalized Policyholder experiences. They strive to put their Policyholders and communities first, treating every individual they serve with fairness and respect. Ayr Farmers Mutual values stewardship and has taken pride in being community-minded since its origin. As an Ontario Mutual Insurance company, they are committed to fostering and incorporating environmental, social, and governance initiatives and practices.

“Our company values sustainability and is very excited to partner with and learn from the community network and team at Sustainable Waterloo Region”  said President & CEO of AFM, Jeff Whiting.

Over 130 years ago, Ayr Farmers Mutual was built by a community in need. This foundation has provided integrity, accountability, and historic roots in industry and community providing insurance protection to homeowners, farms, and businesses in and around the Waterloo Region. We are thrilled this long-standing local company joined our network of organizations working towards more sustainable operations in the Waterloo Region, and we can’t wait to see what their first year of membership brings.

“We are so excited for the opportunity to be working with Ayr Farmers Mutual on their sustainability journey,” said Tova Davidson, Executive Director of SWR. “Not only are they committed to looking for the best options to reduce their operating impacts, but they also have the opportunity to show their sector and their customers what is possible. It is an honour to work with them on this commitment to sustainability.”

As a member, they become connected to an extensive network of like-minded organizations to share and learn best practices. Members in our network have invested in better understanding the impacts of their operations on environmental sustainability. They use program resources to build a culture of sustainability among employees and to engage employees as sustainability advocates while also adapting policy and reducing impact through realistic sustainability targets.
