Videographer and Video Editor

SWR is seeking a creative and detail-oriented Volunteer Videographer and Video Editor to support our upcoming Evening of Recognition event. This role will be responsible for capturing and producing compelling winner highlight videos that showcase the impact and achievements of our award recipients at SWR’s biggest event of the year.

As the Videographer and Video Editor you would fulfill the following roles: 

  • Film and edit winner spotlight videos in advance of SWR’s Evening of Recognition event.
  • Conduct on-camera interviews with winning organizations, highlighting their achievements, mission, and journey to use as a voiceover for the videos. 
  • Coordinate and conduct on-site visits (as required) to capture engaging visual storytelling content with our partners and winners.
  • Adapt, edit, and export video content in multiple formats optimized for various digital platforms in alignment with SWR’s brand guidelines.

As a strong candidate for this role, you have the following skills, attributes, and experience:

  • Intermediate proficiency in video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or equivalent).
  • Advanced experience using DSLR or mirrorless cameras and professional audio equipment, as well as access to own equipment.
  • Strong understanding of video storytelling, composition, and framing.
  • Ability to manage footage, audio, and post-production workflows independently with strong time management skills.
  • Portfolio demonstrating past video production and editing work.
  • Access to reliable transportation.

Location: The Videographer and Video Editor will receive an SWR email address and access to Google Drive and relevant applications, allowing them to complete their volunteer tasks remotely. 

Time commitment:  

  • This is a short term volunteer position, approx. 3 months,  with an immediate start date. 
  • Some daytime availability for on-site filming during regular business hours will be required.
  • Time commitment of 5-10 hours a week for the duration of this project.
  • Possibility of extension for SWR’s content needs beyond Evening of Recognition.

Communications Team Manager

Are you passionate about environmental sustainability and skilled in bringing people and ideas together through clear, compelling communication? We’re looking for a Volunteer Communications Team Manager to help lead the charge in telling our story, supporting our programs, and inspiring action across our community.

In this role, you’ll work closely with our Executive Director and management team to implement the organisation’s marketing and communications strategy. You’ll also manage a talented and passionate team of volunteer creatives and communicators, helping them stay motivated, grow their skills, and deliver on key organizational priorities.

As the Communications Team Manager you would be responsible for:

Planning & Leadership

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and Managers to design and execute our overall communications and marketing strategy
  • Maintain clear guidelines for how the communications team operates
  • Participate in leadership-level planning and discussions as a member of the Functional Area Management team
  • Support Program Managers by helping to execute marketing plans

Team Management & Volunteer Coordination

  • Lead and support a team of volunteer marketers, writers, and designers
  • Encourage growth and engagement within your team through clear expectations, regular check-ins, and mentorship
  • Assign projects based on team capacity, deadlines, and strategic importance
  • Foster collaboration and team spirit within a remote volunteer setting

Project Oversight & Quality Control

  • Manage incoming requests for marketing support from other teams, setting priorities and timelines
  • Coordinate and oversee marketing campaigns and content across channels
  • Review and edit written content including blog posts, and web materials for accuracy, tone, and consistency
  • Provide day-to-day guidance and support to volunteers working on content and design tasks

As the successful candidate you have:

  • A background in communications, marketing, digital media, or a related field
  • Experience leading teams or managing projects 
  • Excellent writing and editing skills with a strong eye for detail and consistency
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to adapt to changing needs and timelines
  • Experience working cross functionally on multiple teams and bridging ideas together
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Experience with volunteer management, preferred

Work Location: This role is primarily virtual, with the requirement to attend in-person all team meetings monthly, and in person Functional Area Manager meetings monthly at our office located at evolv1 in Waterloo, Ontario.

Time Commitment: The position requires approximately 5 hours per week and  a minimum commitment of 1 year.

Board of Directors

Seeking Cambridge, Guelph-Wellington, Perth, Oxford representation for the board of Sustainable Waterloo Region (SWR).

About SWR

SWR is a social enterprise nonprofit that’s committed to helping the local business community, and communities as a whole, become environmentally and economically sustainable and strong. SWR was founded in Waterloo region and now serves Guelph-Wellington and Perth and Oxford County.

Our mission is to lead the transformation to sustainable systems of energy, mobility and construction to help build a cleaner, more diverse economy, and a more just and equitable community. We support businesses and members of the community in a variety of ways to help find the sweet spot where financial and environmental sustainability come together. It’s our goal to build a movement toward a future that benefits everyone. We believe that providing clarity in direction and transparency in progress reporting leads to greater individual and collective success for our region.

Who we’re looking to add to our Board of Directors

We are seeking board members from Cambridge, Oxford, Perth and/or Guelph-Wellington with experience in nonprofit and business sectors, to complement current board members’ skills.

What’s involved

This governance board meets four times each year and board members also participate in one of three committees, which also meet quarterly or as needed: 

  • Strategy and Development
  • Finance and Audit
  • Governance and Oversight

Term: Two years initially, with the option to renew 

Culture: The board is respectful, constructive, supportive and collegial, while still asking the hard questions that will make the organisation stronger. Board members are invited to attend the organisation’s events and activities, and through both formal and informal opportunities, get to know staff members and volunteers who drive the success of SWR.
