Can you believe it’s officially December? As exciting and joyous as this season seems to be, it can also be extremely stressful for those who haven’t even thought about Christmas shopping yet. Consumerism is in the air, which is easy to see within seconds of entering any shopping mall. Luckily, I have almost finished my Christmas shopping, but I know the same can’t be said for everyone else.
This year, we wanted to provide a shopping guide, of sorts, so that holiday shopping is more relaxed and informed. I’ve reached out to a few local businesses for corporate – or personal – gift ideas that are sourced locally. Sourcing local is a small way to decrease the environmental impact that is associated with shipping product, especially with the vast amounts required to meet demand at this time of year. A lot of the businesses in this blog series also have other environmental benefits, which will be explained later.
I’m not going to tell you that you should only buy gifts if they are environmentally friendly. I’m not even guaranteeing that the stores and products in this blog series are completely “green.” Instead, I’m offering suggestions for local businesses that make a conscious effort to support their community by sourcing at least some of their product locally. Most of these stores will also be less crowded and stressful than a shopping mall.
I was excited to work on this project because I knew that it would be a great learning experience for me, I can provide an easy guide for other people, and it helps support local business. A triple win!
Each blog post will have information about the profiled business, some gift ideas from their store, and the businesses contact information. We will be posting a new blog every single day until we run out, so check back regularly for updates.
Happy shopping!
