Marketing Coordinator (SWR General)

Are you looking for an opportunity to contribute your time and talents in the area of Marketing and supporting the Sustainable Waterloo Region team to further their impacts within Waterloo Region?  This is a great opportunity for an established professional or a candidate early-in-career looking to sharpen skills and grow professionally. We provide a supportive environment with mentoring and guidance.The Marketing Coordinator works with various Sustainable Waterloo Region teams, the Marketing Team and the Events Team to execute various marketing projects.

As the Marketing Coordinator you would:

  • Attend meetings to develop an understanding of SWR’s upcoming marketing needs (ex. messaging changes, rebranding, promotional materials, case studies, newsletters, events, videos)
  • Report potential upcoming marketing projects to the Communications Manager during Marketing Team meetings and through email
  • Collaborate with Functional Area Managers and other stakeholders to develop project plans for marketing needs
  • Collaborate with other members of the Marketing Team to complete program project deliverables (ex. Graphic Designer, Marketing Coordinators, etc.)
  • Provide support to the other Marketing Coordinators on the team

As a strong candidate you have:

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Strong project management skills
  • Keen eye for detail
  • Interest in being part of a collaborative team, but with the ability to work independently and remain self-motivated
  • Marketing and/or communications experience an asset
  • Post-secondary degree in English or related field an asset
  • Passion for environmental sustainability

Time Commitment:

  • Approximately 5 hours per week (including bi-monthly SWR Team meeting Tuesdays from 5:30 -7:30pm, team social events and regular Communications Team one-to-one and team meetings as set by the Communications Manager). We are looking for candidates who are able to commit to a one year minimum.

IT Manager

Passionate about IT? Want to help this great organization with its next wave of technological innovation?

The IT Manager bravely guides the SWR IT Team to administer, manage and govern SWR’s IT practices. This includes exploring more effective use of current technologies and successfully adopting new technologies where appropriate.

As the IT Manager you would:

• Work closely with two other key SWR IT volunteers: our SalesForce Coordinator and Web Manager
• Developing detailed instructions for using and optimizing current technology solutions.
• Looking for new technologies to meet current team member needs.
• Staying up-to-date on innovations in current technologies and communicating them to the team.
• Performing process mapping for functional areas, developing knowledge of how each is currently doing their roles and determining how they can be doing them more efficiently from a technology perspective.
• Ongoing support with IT issues for staff and volunteers, as needed

As a strong candidate for this role, you bring:

• Ability to perform research on software/technology features from a user perspective
• Ability to identify issues in processes
• Strong communication skills
• Knowledge of or interest/passion in gaining experience with: G-Suite, Microsoft Office, SalesForce, Identity and Access Management and PC/Desktop management
• Passion for environmental sustainability an asset

Time commitment:

Approximately five hours per week (including bi-monthly SWR Team meeting Tuesdays from 5:30 – 7:30) for a six-month minimum.

Fund Development Manager

The Fund Development role is an amazing opportunity to work with a large network of diverse funding stakeholders as well as manage and recruit a team of passionate fundraisers.

The Fund Development Manager leads SWR’s grants and sponsorship efforts. In this role, you will have the opportunity to set the strategy for this year’s sponsorship campaign and develop real-world fundraising and external relationship management experience.

As the Fund Development Manager you would:

• Hire and manage a team of fund development volunteers to assist with sponsorship reach outs and grant application writing, as needed;
• Developing detailed instructions for using and optimizing current sponsorship approach;
• Actively maintain Salesforce with Sponsor and Grantor information, details and deadlines
• Performing process mapping for functional areas, developing knowledge of each areas funding needs and plan out fund development strategies

As a strong candidate for this role, you bring:

• Previous fundraising experience as asset, but not required – we are passionate about skill building
• Ability to perform research on possible sponsors and applicable funding sources
• Ability to identify issues in processes
• Strong communication skills
• Knowledge of or interest/passion in gaining experience in external relationship management, partnership development and funding relations
• Passion for environmental sustainability an asset

Time commitment:

Approximately five hours per week (including bi-monthly SWR Team meeting Tuesdays from 5:30 – 7:30) for a six-month minimum.

Photographer

Do you love digital photography and have access to a semi-professional to professional grade digital camera (DLSR or Mirrrorless)? Do you have flexibility to attend morning and evening events?

As the SWR Photographer, you will pride yourself on taking high-quality photos for use in our external facing communications and promotional material. Your subject matter will cover events, the SWR Team and various elements relating to SWR’s programs.

As a Photographer you would:

  • Define key deliverables with our Events Team prior to an event, whether they be key individuals or groups to photograph; posed, candid or compositional styles
  • Attend monthly morning/evening events, arriving at sites with sufficient time for equipment prep and scheduling
  • Take high-quality images that meet the specifications outlined with the Events Team
  • Provide other photos of Waterloo Region with a sustainability perspective
  • Coordinate SWR full team photos every couple months and manager headshots as required
  • Think critically and creatively to achieve vision in taking images
  • Edit photos professionally and to a consistent and timely standard

As a strong candidate for this role you bring:

  • Passion for environmental sustainability
  • Knowledge of digital photography and access to a semi-professional to professional grade digital camera (DLSR or Mirrrorless)
  • Experience using photo-editing software
  • Experience using Photobucket or a willingness to learn

Time commitment:

  • Approximately 5 hours per week with a one year time commitment.
  • Regular attendance and participation in several recurring meetings (including monthly 1:1’s with Communications Manager, Communications team meetings, bi-monthly SWR Team meetings (third Tuesday evening of every second month), SWR team socials, etc.

Public Relations Generalist

Do you have a background in Public Relations or are interested in furthering your skills in this area? Our Communications team has an opening for a PR Generalist to support a wide variety of areas within the PR team.

As a Public Relations Generalist would:

  • Support media relations activities, including internal record keeping of media hits and contacts, write and distribute media releases and advisories, and update media and news content on the SWR website
  • Research, write, edit and coordinate submission of award applications
  • Write content for the SWR blog in partnership with the Community Relations Coordinator
  • Curate social media content on Twitter and Facebook
  • Plan and execute overall PR Support for program campaigns and events

As a strong candidate for this role you bring:

  • Passion for environmental sustainability
  • Strong written and verbal communicating skills
  • Flexible nature with openness to move between projects
  • An interest in written content generation
  • An interest in public relations; formal training in PR an asset

Time commitment:

Join the ClimateActionWR Street Team!

ClimateActionWR is collaborative partnership between Green Solutions and Sustainable Waterloo Region. This program coordinates and facilitates activities in the Climate Action Plan to achieve Waterloo Region’s 6% greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction target by 2020, and is working to develop the region’s long-term Climate Action Plan to achieve an 80% GHG emissions reduction target by 2050. This year, we want to engage with community members to generate ideas on how we can achieve our ambitious GHG reduction goal, both at an individual and community level, and we need outgoing and passionate volunteers such as yourself to join our team!

As a Street Team volunteer you will attend events in Waterloo Region (Cambridge, Kitchener, Waterloo, and the surrounding Townships) between June and September 2019, to collect feedback and ideas from event participants on how we can take action on climate change to achieve our long-term 80% GHG reduction target.

This role requires approx. 2 hours of training + 12 hours of volunteering over 4 months (~3 shifts).

Street Team Shift Leaders are responsible for delegating tasks and providing support to Street Team volunteers, communicating with the ClimateActionWR team to address any concerns at events, and answering community members’ questions about ClimateActionWR and partner organizations.

This role requires approx. 3 hours of training + 24 hours of volunteering over the 4-month engagement period (~8 shifts).
