Sustainability Projects
2022
Planted over 200 native, drought tolerant trees to create habitat and wildlife corridors to create connectivity. White clover and stripes of grass were planted between rows as ground cover and to retain soil moisture. These projects successfully reduced surface runoff, nutrient offloading, and soil erosion, which posed problems in June 2021 due to significant rainfall. The project was funded by Grand River Conservation Authority.
2021
Partners with a local company that recycles difficult to recycle plastics such as shrink wraps, and manufactures plastic construction lumber. In this way they contribute to Waterloo’s local circular economy, and recycled over 7000 pounds in plastics this year.
