Sustainability Projects

2022

Held a cleanup campaign during which 23.5 metric tonnes of paper was recycled, a furniture reallocation program to re-home obsolete office furniture to employees and local non-profit organizations, solar panel installations at their Doon campus, and added four Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations to their network, making a total of eleven across their campuses!

Purchased first electric vehicle (first cargo van in Waterloo) as part of their fleet.

2019

Conestoga College retrofitted their Cambridge Campus with a 250 ton Ground Source Heat Pump system (Geothermal) and 500 kW Solar Photovoltaic system to provide thermal energy and renewable electricity. Combined these have the potential to reduce 390 tonnes of CO2e per year, which is the equivalent to removing approximately 98 cars from the road.

2017

Energy Reductions: Lighting has been upgraded to LEDs in parking lots 5 and 6 and now also includes motion sensors that will dim the lights to 30% when not in use. In addition controls in some of the buildings were changed from pneumatic to demand ventilation (system only turns on if the room is occupied). LED lighting in some of the campus facilities were linked to the building automation.

2016

Building Upgrades: A Water softener was installed in resulted in overall decreased water and salt usage. Load shedding was accomplished on 3 HVAC units, and manual controls were replaced with digital ones in order to reduce power load.
