The Government Relations Manager role increases the visibility and exposure of Sustainable Waterloo Region to all levels of government; working collaboratively with other members of the Government Relations team to deliver on the government relations strategy.

As the Government Relations Manager You Would: 

  • Develop annual Government Relations strategy that supports the new program development and existing program and network needs
  • Maintain a database of government contacts at the provincial and federal levels
  • Stay up to date on government programs, funding opportunities, priorities that relate to the work of SWR to ensure we are well positioned to leverage these.
  • Help to plan and schedule annual government relations trips to Ottawa and Toronto for the ED
  • Contact government officials by phone and/or email
  • Track correspondence with government officials 
  • Coordinate logistics for online and in-person meetings
  • Prepare briefing materials and agendas for meetings
  • Support Government Relations team members

As a strong candidate for this role you bring:

  • Passion for environmental sustainability
  • Experienced in or a strong desire to gain further experience in policy and/or government relations 
  • Self-driven and motivated to achieve results
  • Excellent communication, both oral and written
  • Relationship management experience
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Strong attention to detail

Time commitment:

  • Approximately 5 hours per week
  • Regular attendance and participation in several recurring meetings including bi-monthly BD Team meetings, bi-monthly SWR Team meetings, monthly 1:1 meetings with ED, monthly program manager meetings, monthly FAM meetings, monthly 1:1 meetings with volunteer team of BD Generalists, and optional weekly Impact Network meetings.
