The volunteer Business Development (BD) Manager oversees the attraction of new members to all SWR programs, with a focus on the Impact Network. This is done through an existing sales pipeline and development of new business opportunities related to the member programs of SWR. Working with the Executive Director, and Program Managers, the BD Manager develops and implements the strategy for long-term growth and membership opportunities. As a Functional Area Manager (FAM), the BD Manager manages a team of up to BD Generalist volunteers; training and onboarding, motivating the team, tracking performance and reporting key metrics.
As a Business Development Manager you would:
- Work with the Executive Director and Impact Network Program Manager to develop and implement strategy for growth of Impact Network membership.
- Generate new leads, identify and contact potential leads, screen potential business opportunities – selecting leads that are inline with strategies, and support and facilitate pitch logistics.
- Assist in the coordination and implementation of marketing strategies for membership growth in partnership with the Communications Team.
- Evolve the business development process.
- Work with the Executive Director and other program managers on membership growth for all SWR programs.
- Manage the BD team communications (email, phone inquiries, and marketing collateral).
- Coordinate BD team meetings.
- Assist with training and onboarding volunteers and supporting their leadership development.
- Develop yearly goals that support SWR objectives.
- Work with other Functional Area Managers as needed.
As a strong candidate for this role, you have the following skills, attributes, and experience:
- Passion for environmental sustainability.
- Experienced in business development/sales.
- Experience leading or supporting a strong and effective business development or sales team.
- Team player with the ability to engage with a diverse group of people.
- Management experience, an asset.
- Analytical with strong attention to detail.
- Project management skills.
- Self-driven and motivated to achieve results.
- Excellent communication, both oral and written.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Relationship management experience.
- Interest in merging business and environment.
- Experience or interest in delivering presentations.
- Salesforce experience, an asset.
Time commitment:
- Approximately 5 hours per week with time required each week flexing depending on tasks
- Regular attendance and participation in recurring meetings including bi-weekly BD Team meetings, monthly SWR Team meetings, monthly FAM meetings, 1:1 meetings with ED and/or program managers, regular 1:1 meetings with BD volunteers, and optional weekly Impact Network meetings.
- 18 month minimum time commitment.
Work Location:
The Business Development Manager will receive an SWR email address and access to Google Drive, allowing them to complete their volunteer tasks remotely, or in the Sustainable Waterloo Region office.
