5 Questions about our Website Redesign

Green grass

Currently we’re reassessing the Sustainable Waterloo Region website and wondering if we provide people with the experience they’re looking for when they visit. Over the last few weeks, as we got this project off the ground, we’ve chosen not to take the standard redesign approach. Instead we’re taking the website update from the angle of […]

Grappling with an Intimidating Possibility: Advocacy

Green grass

Sustainable Waterloo Region has historically been a non-profit focused on service delivery as a means of achieving our mission. Our mission, though it has evolved over the past three years, has always had the word ‘collaborative’ in it. And collaboration has been a core value since the beginning, while continuing to define the organization. Personally, […]

In the Course of 4 Months

Green grass

Friday was the first snowfall of the winter and I can say the feeling is peculiar. Peculiar because it reminds me that my coop term here at Sustainable Waterloo Region is rapidly coming to an end and the fact that on the way to my first team meeting, I was sweating walking to the office […]

The Launch of MemberLink

Green grass

Tomorrow is a big day for Sustainable Waterloo Region. Not only are we hosting our first event of our 2010/2011 event season, but we are also launching a new online community for our Regional Carbon Initiative members.  MemberLink will provide a central, collaborative space for our Regional Carbon Initiative members to share ideas and resources […]

Co-Op Coming to an End

Green grass

I am now facing the last two weeks of my co-op term with Sustainable Waterloo Region and it seems like the last four months have flown by. Since day one I have been busy with various tasks and assignments which thankfully have left no time for willing school to start or the summer to end. […]

Kitchener Radio Group and CHYM Cares

Green grass

In early spring, Mike Morrice and I were invited to meet with the Kitchener Radio Group to discuss ways they might be able to “publicize the efforts” of Sustainable Waterloo Region. Meeting with the radio group was a unique opportunity for Sustainable Waterloo Region because radio wasn’t a communication medium we had reached out to […]

A Change of Heart

Green grass

When we started discussing the possibility of a Sustainable Waterloo Region team blog a few months ago, I was more than a little sceptical. After having suffered under the weight of maintaining a blog for several months in early 2009 – while under some acute time pressure to lead the team towards launching the Regional Carbon Initiative before the summer of that year – I knew of how a blog can quickly become “that-thing-you-know-you-should-do-but-always-have-something-more-important-on-the-list”. On top of this, I’m keenly aware of the excess of blogs already at all of our fingertips, the reality that this growth is sputtering in lieu of other social media tools, and the simple truth that without relevancy and crisp insight, there is little point to even starting.

But over the past few months, not only have I been convinced (a) that this is a valuable addition to how our team communicates with the community and (b) that this will directly help us achieve our mission, but I’m even more importantly, I’m genuinely excited about being a part of it.

Welcome!

Green grass

It’s finally here! I’d like to welcome you to Sustainable Waterloo Region’s most recent contribution to the world of social media – our Team Blog. Having dedicated months to putting together the business plan and getting everything in place along with the incredible and immeasurable help of CuteGecko, to say I’m excited to see this […]
