We are proud to recognize Conestoga College as a valued member of the Impact Network since 2016! As a Post-secondary educational institution, Conestoga College is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting sustainability across their campuses and operations as they work towards their goal of net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050! 

Throughout 2024, Conestoga College prioritized sustainability across various initiatives. They participated in the Strategic Energy Management (SEM) program, completing an energy scan and launching an Energy Team to coordinate efforts across departments. The college is also developing Sustainable Building Standards and integrating low-carbon heating and energy-efficient elements in new projects. In transportation, EV charging stations were added, and sustainable options like e-scooter parking and electric vehicles were introduced. Waste management improvements included a new e-waste drop-off and battery recycling program. Biodiversity efforts included solar grazing for sheep and educational signage at pollinator gardens. 

Conestoga also engaged with the community through initiatives like the Community of Practice for Sustainability, sustainability speaker series, and Climate Cafés, as well as conducted research projects focused on food security and Indigenous land restoration. The college’s sustainability efforts were recognized, with Bloom restaurant winning a Green Leadership Award and the college hosting a Climate Pedagogy Symposium. Conestoga’s commitment to sustainability is further demonstrated through projects like Wiijindamaan, which integrates land restoration and Indigenous knowledge, and its work with PRME to incorporate the UN SDGs into the curriculum.

The Impact Network provides Conestoga College with many engagement opportunities such as Carbon Cleanse which provides a fun and approachable way for employees to get involved with sustainability initiatives at Conestoga. The Impact Network brings Initiatives that raise awareness and empower Conestoga College employees to take action and are an important part of fostering a culture of sustainability at the college.
