[March 2025] Sustainable Waterloo Region (SWR) is happy to welcome Wood Rescue as the newest member of the Impact Network, joining as an Observing Organization!

Wood Rescue is a local wood recycling company that is making a significant impact on reducing wood waste in Waterloo Region. Their mission is simple yet powerful: divert wood from landfills and keep it in circulation. Wood Rescue is dedicated to reducing the amount of wood waste that ends up in the landfill by either converting recycled wood into their own products or selling it back to the community, contributing to both the local economy and sustainability.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled to join the Impact Network with Sustainable Waterloo Region! We are looking forward to working with the community to find as many ways as possible to make use of rescued wood instead of new wood and ultimately reduce deforestation. We are constantly expanding our list of available products – if you don’t see what you’re looking for on our website, reach out and we’ll work with you to design and create a custom product that fits your needs. Together we can work towards reducing wood “waste” in the region and build a circular wood economy. We believe there’s no reason for perfectly good wood to end up in the landfill!” — Patrick Dufresne, Co-Founder of Wood Rescue

So far, Wood Rescue has saved over 3,250 pounds of wood from the landfill, and this is just the beginning of their journey!

“As an organization that is founded on reducing waste in our community, we are so happy to be working with Wood Rescue, both in their own impact, and through some of the other work that SWR does,” said Tova Davidson, Executive Director of SWR. “More and more it is becoming clear that companies need to consider both their operations and their products and services, and Wood Rescue is a leader in this area locally!”
