At Sustainable Waterloo Region, we believe in making an impact—not just in sustainability but also in our community. That’s why we were thrilled to take part in Movember this year as part of our 15 Give Backs campaign, celebrating 15 years of giving back to the community. Movember is a global movement that raises awareness and funds for men’s health, including mental health support and research for diseases like prostate and testicular cancer.
Our team took a creative and collective approach to the challenge. While I was the sole moustache grower (yes, it’s true—I rocked a ‘stache for the cause!), the rest of the team, made up entirely of women, joined me in the “Move” part of Movember. Together, we committed to moving our bodies throughout the month, promoting physical health and well-being while raising awareness for men’s health issues.
For me, participating in Movember is deeply personal. I’m motivated because I know too many men who struggle with serious mental health challenges—this needs to change. I have also personally lived through the life-changing impacts of a cancer diagnosis and treatment. My outcome has been positive, and there are opportunities for many more men to experience similar results. Movember is the leading charity changing the face of men’s health, and this Movember, I was proud to join them in their mission.

We’re excited to share that as a team, we collectively moved over 100 kilometers! Whether it was walking, running, or any other form of movement, we kept each other motivated and active. And the best part? Through our efforts, we raised an incredible $1,250 to support Movember’s mission.
Participating in Movember wasn’t just about the fundraising or the kilometers logged; it was about coming together as a team and contributing to a cause that matters. It was also a meaningful way to align with our 15 Give Backs campaign, where we’re engaging in 15 acts that give back to our community in celebration of our organization’s 15th anniversary.
We’re grateful for everyone who supported us—from cheering us on to donating to the cause. Together, we made a difference, and we’re already looking forward to finding new ways to give back and create positive change in our community.
