Sustainable Waterloo Region (SWR) is happy to welcome Grand Valley Construction Association (GVCA) as the newest member of the Impact Network, joining as an Observing Organization!

GVCA was formed in 1974 when the Guelph Construction Association and the Kitchener-Waterloo Construction Association merged to form one unified organization.

“There is no arguing that the building industry is a significant contributor to carbon emissions. The data suggests that 39% of global energy related emissions are from buildings. With 28% resulting from operation emissions for heating to cooling and 11% from the material and construction materials, there is certainly room for improvement. As a mixed trade association we believe that GVCA can play a role in awareness, education and the adoption of better building materials and practices with a focus on reducing emissions.  We see our role to lead the change and participating in Impact Network is the first step in a process of leading by example. “ – Jeff MacIntyre, President

GVCA exists to create a supportive environment where we advocate, promote and collaborate on behalf of our members. Whether the issue is local, provincial or national, the GVCA helps members handle challenges, legalities and legislative requirements of the construction industry.

“GVCA has been a key partner of SWR for the past few years, and while we are working together to support the building and development sector in a move towards sustainability, we are so happy that this partnership now includes membership in the Impact Network,” said Tova Davidson, Executive Director of SWR. “When two organizations like ours come together, big things can happen, and we are excited to keep this partnership moving.
