New Member Announcement - AirBoss joins the impact network

[July 14, 2022] AirBoss of America Corp. is Sustainable Waterloo Region’s newest member of the Impact Network, joining as an Observing Organization!

As a member, they become connected to an extensive network of like-minded organizations to share and learn best practices. Members in our network have invested in better understanding the impacts of their operations on environmental sustainability. They use program resources to build a culture of sustainability among employees, and to engage employees as sustainability advocates while also adapting policy and reducing impact through realistic sustainability targets.

“Airboss’ commitment to sustainability is a beacon of the change we are seeing in our community,” said Tova Davidson, Executive Director of Sustainable Waterloo Region. “We are thrilled that they see the value of sustainability in their operations, and are making this commitment to a better future for all! It is our honour to work with them on this commitment to sustainability.”

AirBoss has facilities in Canada and the United States, with its largest compounding plant located in Kitchener.  AirBoss is a developer, manufacturer, and provider of personal protective equipment, custom rubber compounds, defense solutions and rubber products. Providing products and services to the heavy commercial, defense, construction and infrastructure, oil and gas and automotive industries, AirBoss provides state of the art solutions for a variety of challenges.

“As one of North America’s largest rubber custom compounders, it is crucial to the success of AirBoss to consider sustainability in all aspects of our operations and progress towards the establishment of measurable targets to support our environmental strategy,” said Erin Stavropoulos, Director of Sustainability, AirBoss.  “We are thrilled to partner with Sustainable Waterloo Region to collaborate on goals and use their expertise to help guide us on the evolution of our environmental journey.”

AirBoss has already demonstrated environmental, social and governance responsibility through their corporate sustainability policy which strives to benefit the communities they operate in via corporate social responsibility and sustainability initiatives.

AirBoss’s commitment to the environment is apparent in the numerous sustainability initiatives they’ve enacted. These initiatives include: properly recycling materials, reducing energy consumption by increasing the number of electric forklift vehicles in their fleet to 60%, reducing waste through scrap management, and providing training sessions for clients and employees. Currently, AirBoss is gathering sustainability data from each of their facilities and looks forward to setting organization-wide goals.

We are thrilled this long standing local company joined our network of organizations working towards more sustainable operations in Waterloo Region, and we can’t wait to see what their first year of membership brings.
