I’m going to be honest about this blog – I have a long history with the Framing and Art Centre. My mom used to work there, an aunt used to work there, and another aunt currently works there. It’s even where my parents first met. I have known the owner for my whole life, and the current Store Manager is my aunt, who, unsurprisingly, I have also known my whole life. My full name, Alexandra, was inspired by a Canadian artist, Alexandra Pennycook, who my mom found through her work there.

The Framing and Art Centre doesn’t have locally sourced framing supplies, but they often have handmade goodies or local art available for purchase in the store. Due to Ion construction they had to move locations, so they are currently located in Belmont Village.

This holiday season they are hosting an amazing campaign to help support the Waterloo Region Food Bank and local artists. It’s called a “Square Foot Show.” Local artists created a piece on a square foot canvas. Every piece is $150, with 75% of the price going directly to the artists and 25% going to the Food Bank. Being honest again here, my dad, two aunts, and a cousin have art on that wall. In some cases, such as my dad, artists have chosen to donate the entire cost of the painting to the food bank. That means you can basically donate $150 to the Food Bank and get an original piece of art in return.

Gift Ideas

Square Foot Art – $150 may be a little more than a lot of people spend for corporate gifts, but this is truly for a good cause. This is also a very good price for original art! There are so many pieces that I can picture on my walls at home or in the office.

Picture framing – Last year for Christmas I got prints made for my parents from pupart.ca and got them framed at the Framing and Art Centre. They look amazing and we have one more way to appreciate our furry friends. The employees at the Framing and Art Centre are incredible at helping customers put together the perfect piece of custom framing, whether it’s a simple photo or sports memorabilia.

Odds and ends – As I mentioned before, there are also small gift items available in the store. These range from small frames to mugs and jewelry. Give them a visit to see what they have in stock!
