In only 2 years Crawford achieves its GHG reduction target and sets a new goal!

July 7, 2015 (Waterloo Region, ON) – Today Crawford & Company (Canada) Inc. celebrates having achieved their Green House Gas (GHG) emission reduction target, well ahead of schedule.

In January 2013, Crawford became a Bronze Pledging Partner of the Regional Carbon Initiative (RCI), and committed to reducing their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 20 percent by 2023. Joining RCI was a huge turning point for Crawford as it provided the company with a wide range of tools and resources to push forward with their green initiatives. Leveraging available resources, Crawford engaged in an energy audit. Many of the recommendations brought fourth were adopted, serving to assist Crawford in reducing their GHG emissions in the Waterloo region and reinforce the organization’s support for sustainable initiatives. Crawford’s dedication to this initiative was further exemplified by becoming a member of Travelwise in 2014, an organization that promotes responsible commuting.

Achieving this goal in such a short time is no small feat and could not have been accomplished without the help of Crawford’s Green Team. This team is composed of a group of dedicated employees who have volunteered their time to reducing Crawford’s impact on the environment through implementing new strategic corporate actions, planning events, writing blog posts, and coordinating sustainable projects.

Some of these projects include:

  • Making head office building improvements that have saved over 13.85 tons of GHG emissions, including replacement of an inefficient boiler.
  • Implementing consistent computer power-saving settings that reduced energy usage from 0.6W/ft2 to 0.5W/ft2.

As a result of their success partnering with RCI, Crawford’s Green Team has received support of their Canadian Executive Leadership Team (ELT) to increase their pledge. They have set a new target to reduce their GHG emissions 40 percent by 2020!

“Crawford’s achievement and renewed commitment gets at the heart of what the Regional Carbon Initiative is all about. Supporting organizations from all sectors in our community to make and maintain ambitious but realistic GHG reduction commitments,” said RCI Program Manager, Matthew Day. “We look forward to continue working together with Crawford to build on the sustainable success they have achieved.”

In recognition of this achievement, Crawford has been presented with the RCI Achievement Award (Bronze) from Sustainable Waterloo Region.
