As the Evening of Recognition quickly approaches, the excitement around the office is palpable! Our 2013 Report has gone to print and our Events Team is prepping both speakers and volunteers for the big night.

Our largest event of the year, the Evening of Recognition is our way of recognizing the 2013 contributions that individuals and organizations have made to local business sustainability efforts, while also building momentum for the coming year. This Thursday, April 24, we are not only celebrating 2013 accomplishments, but are truly reflecting on five years of sustainability-focused action in our business community, and the start of a shift in sustainability norms that we are seeing as a result.

With over 400 registrants so far, we expect record attendance and an energy filled room! There are so many different groups of people across the community that have a vested interest in environmental sustainability, and a curiosity regarding what their peers across the region are doing.  At this event in the past, we have welcomed our mayors, city councillors, public and private sector leaders, residents, valued volunteers and even children. It is one event where all stakeholders come together! Our region is well known for its commitment to collaboration and this network is no exception.

Those who do attend this year will learn:

  • How Regional Carbon Initiative members (including Borealis Bar & Grille, Stantec, St Paul’s University College, Conestoga Mall, House of Friendship and the City of Cambridge) are prioritizing sustainability as part of their culture
  • How local organizations are changing commuting practices through their involvement in TravelWise
  • About the Climate Action Plan and reduction target that has been supported by all local municipalities and the Region
  • How organizations in Waterloo Region are helping educate other communities about the sustainability-focused action they can take

If your Thursday evening is open, we would love to have you join us! Registration is free, and available online until Wednesday evening.

Hope to see you engaging with the network on our complimentary shuttle*, in our networking area, and as part of our captive audience!

– Lisa
