The David Johnson Research & Technology Park is a community-based research and technology park, attempting to foster radical innovation. Sustainable Action: Across R+T Park, various tenants are implementing sustainable initiatives. The AFGA Data Centre, which high-power consumer in the building, installed motion sensors and LED lighting to alleviate this. Some of the outdoor lamps were also upgraded to LED lighting. Composting has also been introduced to two sections of the park.
Emissions: David Johnston Research + Technology Park began tracking their GHG emissions in 2014. The graph below displays their emissions data thus far.
Sustainability Culture & Related Success:
DJ R+T Park already has the second largest green roof in Canada and, with its diverse stakeholders, has the largest green team in the Regional Sustainability Initiative.
Rookie of the Year Award: This award recognizes the most active and accomplished new member of the WRSI in 2015. The R+T Park developed a complex GHG Inventory and created a detailed GHG Reduction Action Plan. To do this, the R+T Park had to pull multiple organizations, buildings, and tenants together to form a green team. It is an active committee with many sub-committees. No small feat for such a complex organization!
Green Team: DJ R+T Park’s green team is comprised of tenants, landlords, a university and multiple large businesses. This green team has successfully installed bioswales in the parking lot, retrofitted the parking lot with LED lighting and prepared a business case for GHG reductions.
