The Climate Collaborative

Measuring and acting towards reducing community-wide GHG emissions

Sustainable Waterloo Region is proud to be a part of The Climate Collaborative. The purpose of this new initiative is to collaboratively develop a community-wide greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory and reduction action plan for the geographical boundary of Waterloo Region.

We are working with two other lead organizations – REEP Green Solutions and the Region of Waterloo – on the research and development of this project. A considerable amount of background research has been completed since 2009, and the project is now focused on developing relationships with potential partners. Most recently, Waterloo City Council approved in principle the City of Waterloo’s participation in the Climate Collaborative.

This exciting project will build on the success of the Regional Carbon Initiative by working collaboratively to create a GHG inventory, reduction target and action plan for Waterloo Region as a whole. In August of 2011, the collaborative announced $205,000 of initial funding for the project. For more details, view the full press release here.

Stay tuned for opportunities to get involved!

As the project develops over 2011 and 2012, there will be opportunities for participation from a wide range of organizations, community groups and citizens.
