Come Out to an Event

We welcome anyone interested in plugging-in to the local sustainability community to attend a Sustainable Waterloo Region event. Our quarterly events are designed to build environmental sustainability into the culture of organizations across Waterloo Region.

What Happens at an Event?
Our educational forums and technical workshops are breakfast events that offer individuals the opportunity to network with others from complementary firms and sectors, and to learn from subject-matter experts. The Sustainable Waterloo Region team is available at every event to answer questions about the Regional Carbon Initiative, our services, and how we help organizations move toward sustainable operations.
Event topics are focused on helping organizations implement cost-effective greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction projects. And each event includes a question and answer period, where ideas are discussed with the speakers and other attendees

Types of Events
Our two main types of events are educational forums and technical workshops:

• Education Forums: Provide attendees with the opportunity to hear from subject-matter experts and their peers about successful case studies and inspirational stories, in order to learn cost-effective best practices with respect to reducing GHG emissions.
  Examples of past educational forum topics include: Ontario’s Feed-In Tariff (FIT) program, Green Teams, and Leaders in Sustainability.
• Technical Workshops: Provide attendees with technical information from GHG Services Professionals (engineers, consultants, and energy specialists) in Waterloo Region, with a focus on helping employees responsible for their organization’s GHG reductions implement successful reduction strategies within their organizations.
  Examples of past technical workshop topics include: Advantages of Telecommuting, Overcoming Challenges in GHG Inventories, and Improving Office Building Sustainability.
