Looking Ahead

Looking at New Initiatives

Sustainable Waterloo Region is extremely fortunate to have a dedicated team of staff and volunteers, and to benefit from the tremendous support and involvement of the Waterloo Region community at large. With a growing list of members in the Regional Carbon Initiative, positive recognition from local municipalities and media, and a talented and passionate team, Sustainable Waterloo Region is poised to increase its impact through new initiatives. In order to address sustainability in Waterloo Region holistically, we are currently researching new projects beyond the Regional Carbon Initiative.

Going forward, any new initiative will adhere to our three Strategic Approaches, those being: facilitating collaborative dialogue, measuring action, and celebrating impact. Like the Regional Carbon Initiative, a new initiative will operate on a foundation of collaboration and education, will measure action, and will celebrate impact in a trustworthy, independent manner.

Other Communities Adopting the Model

Our success to-date has inspired similar start-up organizations in other regions, including Hamilton, Niagara, Toronto, and Charlotte NC. As these organizations work to achieve their own missions, we look forward to seeing advancements towards environmentally sustainable operations in their communities.
